Bed Sheets Australia — Fitted Sheets

Cotton Sateen Fitted Sheets Tailored for Australian Mattresses

Our fitted sheets are cut for Australian mattresses in two depths, standard 35cm and deep sided 43cm, so corners stay anchored instead of pulling free overnight. Made from long staple cotton sateen, each sheet is French seamed and fully elasticated for a secure fit that becomes softer with every wash.

Which depth do you need?

Measure once, choose correctly
1
Measure your mattress

Measure from the base of the mattress to its highest point. A tape measure held flat against the side gives the truest reading.

2
Include everything on top

If your bed has a pillow top or a mattress topper, include it in the measurement. This is the step most people miss, and the usual reason a fitted sheet pulls loose at the corners.

3
Choose your depth

Up to 35cm, choose the standard fitted sheet. Anything deeper, or any mattress with a topper, is best suited to the 43cm deep sided fitted sheet.

Our Bed Linen Size & Fit Guide explains measuring in more detail, and our Australian Bedding Sizes page lists standard mattress dimensions for every size.

Why fitted sheets come loose

The physics of pocket depth

Most fitted sheets don't come loose because the elastic is worn out. They come loose because the pocket is too shallow for the mattress. Once the pocket depth is exceeded, the elastic sits against the side of the mattress instead of curling underneath it. From there, every movement lifts the corners a little further until the sheet comes away.

The fix is not a tighter sheet in the same size. It is a pocket deep enough to clear the mattress and anchor beneath it, which is why we cut two depths rather than one. If your sheet keeps coming off, measure your mattress with its topper in place and compare it against the two depths above.

You can read more about how pocket depth and elastication work together in What Tailored Fit Actually Means.

Frequently asked

Which fitted sheet depth do I need?

Measure your mattress from the base to its highest point, including any pillow top or mattress topper. Up to 35cm suits the standard fitted sheet. Deeper mattresses, and any bed with a topper, suit the 43cm deep sided fitted sheet.

Do your fitted sheets fit pillow top mattresses?

Yes. The 43cm deep sided fitted sheet is made specifically for pillow top mattresses, deeper profiles and beds with mattress toppers. Full perimeter elastication holds it securely beneath the mattress so it stays in place overnight.

What sizes do your fitted sheets come in?

The standard 35cm fitted sheet comes in King Single, Double, Queen and King. The deep sided 43cm fitted sheet comes in Queen, King and Super King. Dimensions for each size are listed on our Australian Bedding Sizes page.

Will the fitted sheet stay in place overnight?

Both depths are elasticated around the entire perimeter, not just the corners. The elastic draws the sheet beneath the mattress on all four sides, so it holds its position rather than pulling loose at the corners.

Why are your fitted sheets French seamed?

A French seam encloses the raw edges of the fabric inside the seam itself, giving a clean internal finish and a stronger join that withstands regular washing. Read more in What Tailored Fit Actually Means.

What fabric are the fitted sheets made from?

100% cotton sateen, woven from long staple cotton for a smooth, breathable hand feel with a subtle sheen. The cotton is OEKO-TEX and REACH certified, and the sateen surface becomes softer with washing. Read about how sateen is woven in our Fabrics & Materials guide, and what thread count does and does not tell you in Thread Count Explained.
