Founders, Flaxfield Linen

Flaxfield Linen was founded in Sydney in 2006 by mother and daughter Carol Hamilton and Letitia Welsh. What began as a shared frustration with bedding that looked beautiful in photographs but fell short in real use due to poor fit, underwhelming fabrics, sizing designed for international markets became a brand built entirely around the opposite.

More than fifteen years on, Flaxfield remains independently owned, family-run, and focused on the same principles it started with.

Our story

A brand built on construction, not trends.

While many bedding brands focus on seasonal colours or surface design, Flaxfield's approach has always centred on how things are made. Every detail is considered, from the quality of the cotton fibre through to the way each piece is finished.

We do not follow fast-moving trend cycles. Instead, we create considered designs intended to remain relevant and functional over time. Bedding that earns its place in a bedroom by performing consistently, wash after wash.

This is not a shortcut philosophy. It is the only way to produce bedding that genuinely improves with age rather than degrading quickly.

"

Well-made bedding should feel comfortable, fit properly and last. Every product we make is designed with this in mind.

How we build it

Designed for Australian homes.

One of the most common frustrations with bedding is poor fit. Many products available in Australia are designed to international sizing standards  resulting in quilt covers that feel too small, sheets that pull loose, or proportions that don't sit correctly.

Flaxfield Linen is designed specifically for Australian mattress sizes, ensuring each piece drapes well and maintains a balanced, tailored appearance over time.

Construction details
01
Long-staple cotton selectionFabric is woven from longer cotton fibres that spin into stronger, finer yarns  reducing pilling, improving smoothness and allowing the fabric to soften naturally with washing rather than becoming rough or limp over time.
02
Tailored Australian sizingEvery piece is proportioned specifically for Australian mattress dimensions not adapted from international templates. This ensures correct drape, balanced overhang and a finish that sits properly on the bed rather than pulling or bunching.
03
Deep-sided fitted sheet constructionSheets are cut for modern Australian mattress depths, including pillow tops and toppers — with full-perimeter high-recovery elastic. Consistent tension is maintained across all four corners through movement and repeated washing without the sheet losing shape or lifting.
04
French seam finishingSeams are enclosed rather than overlocked, eliminating raw edges inside the fabric. Stitched at a controlled density for long-term strength, the result is bedding that holds its structure through years of regular laundering without fraying, splitting or feeling rough against the skin.
05
Concealed closures & precision embroideryButton plackets are hidden beneath the fabric surface for a clean finish and reduced wear on fastenings. Where embroidery is applied, stitching tension is tightly controlled so it sits flat without puckering or distortion and stays that way through use.

Materials

Natural fibres, chosen carefully.

We prioritise natural fibres for their breathability, comfort and longevity. Every material is selected with everyday usability in mind balancing softness, durability and ease of care for Australian homes and climates.

Primary fibre

Long-Staple Cotton

Longer fibres spin into smoother, stronger yarns  resulting in fabric that resists pilling, maintains its structure and softens naturally with each wash.

Weave

Cotton Sateen

A satin-style weave producing a smooth surface, subtle sheen and fluid drape. Breathable and temperature-regulating  suited to year-round use in Australian conditions.

Bedding layers

Alpaca, Wool & Cotton

Selected for throws and bedding layers, these fibres combine warmth, structure and breathability. Alpaca provides lightweight warmth, wool adds resilience and structure, and cotton ensures balance and comfort across seasons.
