Description

Made for the mattresses a standard sheet gives up on: pillow-tops, deep-profile beds, and any mattress carrying a topper. The side walls are cut to 43cm, so the sheet reaches the underside of the mattress properly rather than clinging to the last few centimetres of it.

That extra depth is what stops the corners letting go overnight. Everything else matches the standard sheet: the same cotton sateen, the same French seams, and elastication running the full way around.

Measuring your mattress

Measure from the base of the mattress to its highest point, including any built-in pillow top. If you use a removable topper, measure with the topper in place.

Up to 35cm takes a standard fitted sheet. Up to 43cm takes a deep sided fitted sheet.

Finished sizes carry a tolerance of +10 / -5mm and no allowance has been made for fabric shrinkage.

The wall

A 43cm wall rather than 35cm, which is the difference between a sheet that reaches the underside of a deep mattress and one that stops short and works its way off during the night. The extra depth is cut into the pattern rather than borrowed from the elastic, so the sheet still sits flat across the sleeping surface instead of being pulled taut over the corners to make up the shortfall.

The corners and elastic

Box corners are French seamed, enclosing the raw edge inside the seam rather than overlocking it and leaving it exposed. It is two passes on a single needle lockstitch instead of one, and it is the reason the corner holds its square. The hem carries a 10mm knitted non-twist elastic tunnelled through in a single operation, specified to a commercial laundering standard because the same sheet goes to hotels.

Measure with the topper in place. A topper is the single most common reason a fitted sheet that fitted last year no longer does.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I measure my mattress depth to choose the right fitted sheet?
To measure your mattress depth, place a tape measure at the base of the mattress and measure straight up to the highest point, including any built-in pillow-top or mattress topper. This total height is your mattress depth. If you use a removable mattress topper, measure with the topper in place, as this increases the overall depth. Deep-sided fitted sheets are designed to accommodate taller mattresses and provide better coverage and a more secure fit when standard fitted sheets are too shallow.
Are deep-sided fitted sheets necessary for mattresses with toppers or pillow-top designs?
Yes. Mattresses with toppers or pillow-top constructions increase overall mattress height, which standard fitted sheets may struggle to accommodate. Deep-sided fitted sheets are designed to handle this extra height, ensuring the elastic sits properly beneath the mattress and keeps the sheet smooth and securely in place.
Which size fits an Australian queen, king or super king?
Queen 152 x 203 cm, King 183.5 x 203 cm, Super King 203 x 203 cm, each with a 43cm wall. Australian mattresses are wider than their UK and US equivalents, which is why bedding cut to an imperial pattern sits poorly on an Australian bed.
Why do fitted sheets come loose at the corner?
Usually the elastic rather than the fabric. Flat elastic twists inside its casing over time and then pulls unevenly, dragging the sheet off the corner. We specify a 10mm knitted non-twist elastic tunnelled through the hem, rated for commercial laundering, which holds its recovery for far longer.
