Classique Tailored Pillowcases - Grey
The Classique Tailored Pillowcase in Grey is cut from 400TC long-staple cotton sateen with dual grey satin-stitch embroidery. A cool, neutral colourway that sits quietly against the white ground and layers easily with both warm and cool bedroom palettes.
Description
Grey is balanced to sit between warm and cool tones, allowing it to move easily across different interiors without pulling the palette in either direction. It softens the contrast of the embroidery, making the detail visible through tone rather than sharp definition.
Used across the bed, it creates a quieter composition, where the structure is present but understated. It’s a colour that integrates rather than dominates, particularly suited to layered or tonal settings.

Fabric & construction
The pillowcase
The Classique pillowcases are cut from 400TC single-ply long-staple cotton sateen and sized at 50 × 75cm for a standard Australian pillow insert, 50 × 90cm for King, and 65 × 65cm for European. A top-stitched flange runs close to the embroidered border on all four sides, adding structure to the perimeter without bulk. The envelope closure sits on the reverse, leaving the front uninterrupted. The pillowcase softens progressively with each wash while holding its shape over time.
The embroidery
Two parallel satin-stitch lines in colourfast grey viscose rayon thread run along all four sides of the front face, meeting at each corner in a defined corner motif. The cool neutral tone sits crisply against the white sateen fabric, less contrast than ebony or navy but more definition than tonal white, giving the border a clean, graphic quality.
Grey on white is cool and precise. The border is there, considered rather than quiet.

Care
Wash cold or warm
30–40°C on a gentle cycle. Use liquid detergent only as powder detergents and fabric softeners coat the cotton fibres and gradually dull the sateen surface and reduce its natural breathability over time.
Tumble dry medium
Remove while still slightly damp. The sateen surface smooths naturally as the fabric cools, reducing the need for ironing. Avoid over-drying as heat-set creases are harder to remove than those from line drying.
Improves with washing
Long-staple cotton settles into the weave with each wash, becoming progressively smoother and softer over time. The viscose rayon embroidery thread is colourfast and maintains its depth wash after wash.
Common questions
What makes this a tailored pillowcase rather than a standard cuffed pillowcase?
The Classique tailored pillowcase has a structured flange around all four sides rather than a cuff at one end. The embroidery sits within that border and the opening is concealed on the reverse, leaving the front uninterrupted.
Why does my pillowcase look limp on the bed?
An insert that is too small is one common cause. The pillowcase is cut at 50 × 75 cm for a standard Australian pillow, and if the insert is smaller than that the flange has less to hold against. An insert close to the finished size helps a tailored pillowcase hold its shape on the bed.
Does Grey read as warm or cool?
Grey is the cooler of the two Classique neutrals. Against the white sateen it gives a clean, defined border, and it sits comfortably in rooms built on greys, off-whites and stone.
