Resort Sheet Set - White European Border
A European flat sheet in 400 thread count long-staple cotton sateen, finished with a 100mm mitred turnback border at the head of the sheet, with two cuffed pillowcases to match. The turnback is what makes the bed look made rather than covered.
Description
The turnback is what makes a bed look made rather than covered. Built into the top of the flat sheet as a finished border, it holds its line once the bed is dressed instead of collapsing the way a plain hem does.
White on white keeps the emphasis on the fold itself. Paired with the Resort quilt cover set, or used under a bedspread, it gives the head of the bed a defined edge without introducing colour.
What's included
Each set includes one European flat sheet with a 100mm mitred turnback border, and two cuffed pillowcases with a 100mm cuff and an envelope closure.
Fitted sheets and quilt covers are sold separately.

Fabric & construction
The turnback
A European turnback is a border built into the top of the flat sheet, so the fold at the head of the bed is a deliberate finished edge rather than whatever the sheet happens to do when you turn it down. Ours is 100mm and mitred: the border is folded and pressed first, the mitres are cut after folding and sewn, then the corners are turned out and pressed sharp. Only then is the hemmed sheet body set into the border frame and top stitched through all plies, 1mm in from the folded edge.
The pillowcases
Cuffed rather than bordered: a 100mm cuff is built onto the pillowcase front in a three stage operation and top stitched close to the cuff edge, so the cuff reads as a band at the opening rather than a frame around the whole face. Behind it sits a 30mm envelope hem, which holds the pillow in without buttons or a zip. The side seams are finished with a four thread overedge on a 5mm bite and tied off at the ends.
The mitres are cut after the border is folded, not before. It is slower, and it is the only way the corner comes out square.

Care
Machine wash 30 to 40C
Wash separately in warm water with a mild liquid detergent and rinse well. Avoid fabric softeners, which coat cotton fibres and dull the sateen surface over time.
Line dry or tumble low
Line dry in the shade, or tumble on a low to medium setting. Direct sunlight may change the colour.
Steam iron on cotton
Press while slightly damp for a crisp turnback.
Do not bleach or dry clean
Bleach and optical brighteners are not suitable for the sateen.
