Title
Description

Siena is a quilted cover rather than a flat one, so it does the work a bedspread would normally do. The mitred border runs down both sides and adds 16cm to the finished width, which is what gives it a proper drop over a deeper mattress instead of stopping short at the mattress edge.

The interlocking block quilting gives the bed texture without pattern or colour, so it sits under the Siena embroidered sheet set without the two competing. With the quilt removed it works on its own as a lighter layer through the warmer months.

What's included

Each quilt cover set includes one quilted quilt cover and a matching pair of quilted pillowcases with concealed button placket closures.

European and bordered pillowcases are sold separately and share the same quilting and piped finish.

The border

The quilted panel is framed by a plain mitred border, 80mm deep, with a covered corded piping set into its edge over a 1.5mm soft cord. Mitred means the corners are joined at 45 degrees so the border turns cleanly rather than one side overlapping the other, and our specification requires every mitre to be even and accurate to a true 90 degree outer edge. Top stitching runs 1mm in from the turned edge. Because the border runs down both sides of the cover it adds 16cm to the finished width, and that width is what gives it a proper drop over a deeper mattress rather than stopping short at the mattress edge.

The quilting and the closure

The Siena quilting is an interlocking block repeat worked across the whole face, quilted through a cotton sateen face and a cotton sateen backing with a lightweight polyester fibre padding between them. The back of the cover is plain rather than quilted. The closure is concealed buttons on a placket, 16mm and 18mm, colour matched and non-corrosive, each stitched off so the thread cannot unravel, so nothing interrupts the quilted face.

The border is 80mm. There are two of them, which is where the extra 16cm of width comes from, and the width is the whole point.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Siena wider than the quilt cover size shown?
The stated Queen, King and Super King measurements refer to the main quilt cover. An 80 mm border is then added down each side, increasing the finished width by 16 cm. A Queen therefore finishes at 226 cm wide, a King at 261 cm and a Super King at 286 cm.
Is Siena available in Super King?
Yes. Siena is available in Queen, King and Super King. The Super King quilt cover measures 270 x 240 cm before the border and 286 x 248 cm once the border is included.
Does Siena need to be ironed?
Not necessarily. The quilted surface makes light creasing far less noticeable than it would be on a plain sateen cover. If you prefer a particularly crisp finish, the plain border can be pressed after washing.
Is the reverse of Siena quilted as well?
No. The interlocking quilting is worked across the face of the cover, while the reverse is plain cotton sateen. This keeps the underside smooth while allowing the quilting to provide the structure and detail on the surface of the bed.
