The weave
Sateen uses a 4/1 construction — four warp threads float over one weft — creating a smooth, light-catching surface. At 400TC with single-ply long-staple cotton the sheet is lightweight and breathable, not heavy. Unlike multi-ply thread count sheets, the fabric breathes freely and softens progressively with each wash rather than roughening over time.
The embroidery
Two understated satin stitch lines in a cool toned grey frame crisp white cotton, adding quiet contrast without overwhelming the bed. The cool undertone keeps the grey clean and neutral, avoiding warmth and maintaining a balanced, structured finish suited to both contemporary interiors and classic layered styling.

Care
Wash cold or warm
30–40°C on a gentle cycle. Use liquid detergent only. Powder detergents and fabric softeners coat the cotton fibres and gradually dull the sateen surface and reduce its natural breathability over time.
Tumble dry medium
Remove while still slightly damp. Sateen smooths naturally as it cools, reducing the need for ironing. Avoid over-drying, as heat-set creases are harder to remove than those from line drying.
Improves with washing
Long-staple cotton settles into the weave with each wash, becoming progressively smoother over time unlike short-staple cotton, which tends to pill under the same conditions.
Common questions
When would I choose Grey rather than one of the darker Classique colours?
Grey gives the Classique border definition while remaining quiet against white. It is a useful choice for rooms with cooler neutrals or where the bed linen is intended to sit comfortably with other colours and textures rather than become the strongest element in the room.
What is the header of a flat sheet, and why does the embroidery sit there?
The header is the deep hem at the top of the sheet. It is the part that folds back over the quilt when the bed is made, so it is the only part of a flat sheet that shows. Putting the embroidery there means the detail is visible on a made bed and nowhere near where you sleep.
Is grey embroidery visible from across the room?
Yes, though it is doing less work than Ebony or Navy. At a distance the grey reads as a defined line rather than as a colour, and close up the satin stitch is clearly visible. Ebony gives the strongest contrast of the Classique colourways if you want the border to carry further.
