Description

Ebony creates a crisp black and white contrast when the flat sheet is folded back, giving the bed a clean, tailored edge beneath lighter layers. The satin-stitch embroidery is deep and defined, adding structure without making the bed feel overly decorative.

Made from 400 thread count long-staple cotton sateen, the sheet has a smooth, softly lustrous finish that pairs easily with the matching Classique Ebony quilt cover set, pillowcases and European pillowcases.

The weave

Sateen uses a 4/1 construction — four warp threads float over one weft — creating a smooth, light-catching surface. At 400TC with single-ply long-staple cotton the sheet is lightweight and breathable, not heavy. Unlike multi-ply thread count sheets, the fabric breathes freely and softens progressively with each wash rather than roughening over time.

The embroidery

Two parallel satin-stitch lines in deep black (ebony) thread define the flat sheet header and pillowcase cuffs. At the highest contrast in the range, stitch tension is calibrated for black on white remaining uniformly raised and free from puckering after washing. The colourfast rayon thread maintains a true, deep black, resisting the dulling or greying often seen in lower-quality embroidery.

At the highest contrast, embroidery quality becomes immediately visible in a way it never does on softer colourways. Classique Ebony is designed to hold its depth and definition at this level over time.

Wash cold or warm

30–40°C on a gentle cycle. Use liquid detergent only. Powder detergents and fabric softeners coat the cotton fibres and gradually dull the sateen surface and reduce its natural breathability over time.

Tumble dry medium

Remove while still slightly damp. Sateen smooths naturally as it cools, reducing the need for ironing. Avoid over-drying, as heat-set creases are harder to remove than those from line drying.

Improves with washing

Long-staple cotton settles into the weave with each wash, becoming progressively smoother over time unlike short-staple cotton, which tends to pill under the same conditions.

Does the black embroidery make the sheet more difficult to care for?

No. The Ebony satin stitch is worked in colourfast viscose rayon thread and can be washed with the sheet as normal. Wash at 30 to 40°C with a mild liquid detergent and avoid bleach and optical brighteners.

How does a flat sheet set work with a quilt cover?

The flat sheet lies between you and the quilt, and its header folds back over the top of the quilt cover so the embroidery shows across the head of the bed. Used this way the sheet set does the decorative work and the quilt cover underneath can stay plain.

Will the black satin stitch fade over time?

The thread is colourfast viscose rayon, selected so the black holds its depth through repeated laundering. Avoid bleach and optical brighteners, which can affect the appearance and finish of the cotton and embroidery over time.
