Rattan Flat Sheet Set - Fawn
A sheet set: one flat sheet with two matching cuffed pillowcases, in white 400 thread count long-staple cotton sateen, with a rattan-inspired geometric border embroidered in Fawn along the sheet header and the pillowcase cuffs. Presented in a gift box.
Description
A sheet set of one flat sheet and two matching cuffed pillowcases. The Fawn border shows where it is meant to: along the header when the sheet is turned down over the quilt, and along the cuff of each pillowcase.
It is designed to work against white. The geometry is fine enough to add warmth without competing with a quilt cover or a bedspread, which makes it a straightforward way to bring pattern to a bed that is otherwise plain.
About the embroidery
The embroidery is worked in colourfast viscose rayon satin stitch.
On flat sheets and cuffed pillowcases the embroidered panel is cut, embroidered and folded before it is sewn to the piece, so the border is placed against a known edge rather than stitched into a finished sheet. On tailored pillowcases the border is worked into the face and framed by the flange stitching.
Iron the embroidery on the reverse at a medium temperature. Avoid optical brighteners and fabric softeners.

Fabric & construction
The embroidered header
The header is not embroidered into a finished sheet. It is cut as its own panel, 270mm deep, embroidered while it is flat, then folded in half and sewn onto the sheet body. Working this way means the satin stitch is placed against a known edge rather than a moving one, so the border sits parallel to the fold on every sheet rather than drifting by a few millimetres. The pillowcase cuffs are made the same way.
The hems and the piping
The side hems are turned 10mm and folded over 20mm. The bottom hem is turned 10mm and folded over 30mm to finish at 40mm. Both are stitched 1mm in from the inner folded edge, close enough that the hem reads as a line rather than a band. A fine piping is inserted at the head of each pillowcase front, beneath the embroidered cuff, and the closure behind it is an envelope hem folded over 60mm.
The header is embroidered flat, before the sheet exists. It is the only way the border lands in the same place on every one.
