Manhattan Navy & White Flat Sheet Set
A flat sheet with two matching cuffed pillowcases in white 400 thread count long-staple cotton sateen, with a deep navy header carrying two lines of satin stitch. Presented in a gift box.
Description
A flat sheet set does one visible thing: it puts a line across the head of the bed when the sheet is turned down. Manhattan makes that line deliberate, with a navy header and two rows of satin stitch, and matches it on the cuff of each pillowcase.
It works under the Manhattan quilt cover as the full set, and equally well under a plain white cover when you want the sheet to be the only detail on the bed.
About the embroidery
The embroidery is worked in colourfast viscose rayon satin stitch.
On flat sheets and cuffed pillowcases the embroidered panel is cut, embroidered and folded before it is sewn to the piece, so the border is placed against a known edge rather than stitched into a finished sheet. On tailored pillowcases the border is worked into the face and framed by the flange stitching.
Iron the embroidery on the reverse at a medium temperature. Avoid optical brighteners and fabric softeners.

Fabric & construction
The header
The header is the band that shows when the sheet is turned down over the quilt, and on a made bed it is the only part of a flat sheet anyone actually sees. Manhattan puts a deep navy panel there with two parallel lines of satin stitch worked inside it, so what shows is a deliberate horizontal line across the head of the bed rather than an unmarked fold of white.
The pillowcases
Cuffed rather than bordered: the navy band and its satin stitch sit on a cuff at the opening end, so the detail lines up with the header of the sheet rather than framing the whole pillowcase. Behind the cuff is an envelope closure, which holds the pillow without buttons or a zip and leaves the front face uninterrupted.
The header is the only part of a flat sheet anyone sees. It is the part worth spending on.
