Title
Description

Orcia is a quilted cover rather than a flat one, so it does the work a bedspread would normally do. The mitred border runs down both sides and adds 16cm to the finished width, which is what gives it a proper drop over a deeper mattress instead of stopping short at the mattress edge.

Used alone through the warmer months it is enough cover on its own. Through winter it sits as the top layer over a quilt without the bed looking overloaded.

What's included

Each quilt cover set includes one quilted quilt cover and a matching pair of quilted pillowcases with concealed button placket closures.

European and bordered pillowcases are sold separately and share the same quilting and piped finish.

The border

The quilted panel is framed by a plain mitred border, 80mm deep. Mitred means the corners are joined at 45 degrees so the border turns cleanly rather than one side overlapping the other, and our specification requires every mitre to be even and accurate to a true 90 degree outer edge. Top stitching runs 1mm in from the turned edge. Because the border runs down both sides of the cover it adds 16cm to the finished width, and that width is what gives it a proper drop over a deeper mattress.

The piping and closure

A covered corded piping is set into the border seam, made over a 1.5mm soft cord so it holds a defined line without stiffening the edge. The closure is concealed buttons on a placket rather than an exposed row: 16mm and 18mm colour matched, non-corrosive, each stitched off so the thread cannot unravel. Nothing interrupts the quilted face.

The border is 80mm. There are two of them, which is where the extra 16cm of width comes from, and the width is the whole point.

Wash with a mild liquid detergent and rinse well. Avoid fabric softeners, which coat cotton fibres and dull the sateen surface over time.

Machine or line dry

Line dry out of direct sunlight, or tumble on a low setting.

Do not bleach

Bleach and optical brighteners are not suitable for the sateen face or the piping cord.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the set?
One quilted quilt cover and a matching pair of quilted pillowcases, both with concealed button placket closures. European and bordered pillowcases are sold separately and carry the same quilting and piped finish.
What is a mitred border, and why does it matter?
A mitred border is joined at the corners on a 45 degree angle so it turns cleanly instead of one side overlapping the other. It takes longer to make and leaves no bulk at the corner, which is why the border lies flat rather than lifting. On Orcia it is 80mm deep with a corded piping set into its edge, top stitched 1mm from the turned edge. Running down both sides, it adds 16cm to the finished width of the cover.
Will it suit a deeper mattress?
Yes. The 80mm border on each side adds 16cm to the finished width, so the cover drops further over the sides of the bed than a cover of the same nominal size without one. Queen is 210 x 210 cm across the quilted panel and 226 x 218 cm overall; King is 245 x 210 cm and 261 x 218 cm overall.
How does the cover close?
Concealed buttons on a placket at the base. The buttons are colour matched and non-corrosive, and sit behind the placket so nothing is visible on the made bed.
