Description
These pillowcases are made to frame the head of the bed rather than disappear into it. The flange holds a defined rectangle regardless of the pillow inside it, and the embroidered border runs the full way around the face, so the piece reads the same from every angle.
Layered behind the cuffed pillowcases from the Rattan Flat Sheet Set, they set the Fawn border twice at different depths. Used on their own against plain white bedding, they carry the detail of the bed by themselves.
About the embroidery
The embroidery is worked in colourfast viscose rayon satin stitch.
On flat sheets and cuffed pillowcases the embroidered panel is cut, embroidered and folded before it is sewn to the piece, so the border is placed against a known edge rather than stitched into a finished sheet. On tailored pillowcases the border is worked into the face and framed by the flange stitching.
Iron the embroidery on the reverse at a medium temperature. Avoid optical brighteners and fabric softeners.

Fabric & construction
The flange
A 75mm flange runs on all four sides, so a 75 x 50 cm pocket finishes as a 65 x 90 cm pillowcase. The flange is what gives a tailored pillowcase its structure on the bed: it holds a defined rectangle rather than collapsing to the shape of the pillow inside it. It also sets the embroidered border in from the outer edge, where it is protected from the direct friction a seam takes.
The embroidered border
Unlike the cuffed pillowcases in the flat sheet set, where the embroidery sits only at the opening, this border surrounds the pillowcase on all four sides. It is worked in colourfast viscose rayon satin stitch and runs inside the stitching line that secures the flange, so the two elements frame the face together. The closure is an envelope on the reverse, which leaves the front entirely uninterrupted.
A flange is not decoration. It is what stops a pillowcase taking the shape of whatever is inside it.

Care
Machine wash 30 to 40C
Wash with a liquid detergent. Avoid optical brighteners and fabric softeners.
Tumble medium or line dry
Tumble dry on medium and remove slightly damp, or line dry in the shade.
Iron on the reverse
Iron the embroidery on the reverse at a medium temperature.
Do not bleach
Bleach and optical brighteners are not suitable for the sateen or the embroidery thread.
